Bézier curve

A curve defined by anchor points and the handles that pull it between them. The same mathematics draws vector paths and shapes the timing between keyframes.

In Premation

The pen tool draws Bézier paths for shapes and masks, motion paths have Bézier handles on the canvas, and the graph editor gives every keyframe pair handles for value and speed.
