Premation for Windows
The free, open-source motion editor, version 0.7.0. Windows 10 and 11 · x64. No account, no subscription; it runs on your GPU and saves .motion files to your disk.
First launch on Windows
Windows lets an unsigned installer through after one confirmation. Nothing else is needed.
- 01
Run the installer
Open Premation-Setup-Windows.exe from your downloads. It installs per-user, so no administrator prompt appears.
- 02
Click More info, then Run anyway
SmartScreen flags any installer it has not seen signed before. The Run anyway button is behind the More info link, not on the first screen.
- 03
Launch it
Windows does not ask again for this installer, and updates arrive in the app: Premation checks on launch and asks before downloading anything.
Questions
- Which Windows version does it need?
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, with a GPU that supports WebGPU or WebGL2. There is no software renderer; integrated graphics from the last few years are fine.
- SmartScreen blocked the installer. Is it safe?
- The beta builds are unsigned, so SmartScreen flags them as unrecognised rather than as malicious. Click More info, then Run anyway. It installs per-user with no administrator prompt.
- Is it free?
- Yes. The editor is GNU AGPL v3.0 and runs offline with no account. The optional cloud, for synced projects and hosted renders, is the only paid part.
- Do I need ffmpeg?
- Only for MP4 and MOV export. WebM, GIF, PNG sequences, Lottie and the rest encode in the app. The export panel says which formats need it.
